As a lasting tribute to Major General Olinto Mark Barsanti, an endowment has been established at the University of North Texas.

This endowment will assure the continued excellence of the university's military history program and ensure that the general's heroic life and the lives of those who served this nation will be remembered and studied by future generations. The endowment will provide scholarships for military history students, establish an endowed chair in military history and provide other support for faculty and students.

The Department of History is proud to welcome Dr. Geoffrey D. W. Wawro as the inaugural holder of the Major General Olinto Mark Barsanti Chair in Military History and Director of the Military History Center. Dr. Geoffrey Wawro comes to us from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he is currently Professor of Strategic Studies. General Barsanti's family and friends already have established the endowment with a generous challenge grant; however, additional contributions are needed to complete the gift.
