About the Program
The interdisciplinary Study of Sexualities Minor at University of North Texas gives students the opportunity to investigate the multifaceted history of sexuality and its relation to economics, politics, society, belief systems, literature, art, and culture. Faculty members from departments across the University offer courses that present a wide range of methodologies for examining this controversial element of the human condition. Students will be able to explore questions of gender and sexuality with a high degree of sophistication by conducting inquiries across disciplines. The intellectually rigorous courses in this program will help build analytical and writing skills as students engage with an array of theories and models. The Minor will be an asset for students pursuing careers in
and many other fields that require an understanding of world diversity. Successful completion of the requirement of the Minor in the Study of Sexualities will prepare students not only for application to the growing number of Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender-Intersexed Studies, Women’s Studies, and Cultural Studies programs offering Masters and Doctoral degrees, but also for graduate studies in a variety of disciplines. The Study of Sexualities Steering Committee meets annually to evaluate course offerings to be included in the Minor. Two to four classes from the list of approved courses will be offered each semester. UNT faculty who wish their courses to be considered for inclusion in the Minor should contact the Faculty Advisor, Dr. Marilyn Morris. To enroll in the Minor students should make an appointment with the Faculty Advisor to fill out a Degree Plan Advisory Worksheet. Students may contact the Faculty Advisor for information on availability of courses each semester and to plan their program of study. Dr. Morris will be on leave for the 2007-08 academic year but will be available for consultation by e-mail at: mmorris@unt.edu A Minor in the Study of Sexualities requires 18 hours, including at least 6 advanced hours. All students enrolled at UNT regardless of their existing major or area of study are eligible to minor in the Study of Sexualities.
