HIST 1060 WORLD HISTORY FROM 1500
THE COURSE AND ITS GOALS
This course is an introductory survey of world history from 1500 to present. Through reading, lectures, discussion and writing you will gain an elementary understanding of the sub-discipline of world history and of the major places, civilizations, events, personalities and issues of modern world history. You will also get some idea of how history can inform our understanding of contemporary events.

THE COURSE AND ITS GOALS
This course is a survey of Japanese history from pre-historic times through the post-war era. The goal of the course is to give students an introduction to the historical development of Japan's political system, economy, religion, society, and foreign relations. Students are also expected to read extensively in primary sources and to engage actively in analysis and reflection on those sources.

THE COURSE AND ITS GOALS
This graduate readings course will cover the relations between China and the United States of America from (approximately) 1900 to 2000. Students will read one short, general survey of U.S.-China relations in the twentieth century and do other readings as assigned by the instructor.
